Claude Barfield is a Resident Scholar at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C. His areas of research include international trade, Asian regionalism, intellectual property, science and technology policy, and US competitiveness. His most recent publications include: SWAP: How Trade Works (with Philip Levy), and a study of the Chinese telecommunications giant, Huawei. Among his earlier publications are: Biotechnology and the Patent System (with John Calfee); High-Tech Protectionism: The Irrationality of Anti-Dumping Laws; and Free Trade, Sovereignty, Democracy: The Future of the World Trade Organization. Prior to joining AEI, he taught at Yale University, the University of Munich and Wabash College. He received a BA from Johns Hopkins University and a PhD from Northwestern University.
